Managing Validation Methods

Validation represents the process by which an administrator or Validator assesses a learner's understanding of a required standard or directive through the Learner's completion of a competency that has been assigned to them.

A Learner will attempt to prove that they meet required standards through the completions of skills that were associated with the competency when the competency was created. Such prescribed methods may include a demonstration, the completion of a CBL, or through Learner Generated evidence, which the Learner has created and uploaded to the system independently.

  • In the case of a CBL, validation will be an automated process performed by the system; if the Learner has successfully completed the CBL associated with the competency, the system will validate them as having attained the required skill.

  • In the case of a live demonstration or LGE, an assigned Validator will perform the Validation process manually to determine if the evidence presented meets standards or if the Learner requires remedial action, such as a review and resubmission of the competency. These validations can be performed through the myValidations widget by either Competency or by Learner.

The Validation process takes place almost exclusively through widgets in symplr Learning. However, Validation methods are designed through the Learning Administrator on the Validation Methods page under the NetCompetency area.
