AACN Essentials of ECG and Dysrhythmia Monitoring
The steps detailed in this document give instructions on how to access and complete AACN's Essentials of ECG and Dysrhythmia Monitoring course. The steps include accessing and completing the course, taking the test, and printing the certificate.
This documentation displays screenshot examples from symplr Learning. Accessing the course from another learning management system may result in a slightly different experience, but the general steps are the same.
There are several navigation tools available as you work through course materials.
-
Topic navigation. Navigate through the module topics by selecting Next or Previous in the lower-right corner, or choosing a page from the Menu option in the upper-left corner of the page.
Note: You may only navigate via the menu to pages you have already viewed.
-
Resources. View a listing of any recommended external resources by clicking Resources located in the lower-left corner of the screen. Selecting a topic displays more information in a new window. This section can be referenced at any page in the module.
-
Glossary. Selecting Glossary displays a popup window containing an extensive list of medical terminology. Selecting a word displays a definition in the space to the right. This list can even be searched and filtered to provide quick verbal refreshment.
-
Completion Status. Each module displays a page count in the upper-right corner. Each new page brings the module one step closer to completion.
If a page has slides or other content that must be cycled through, there may also be additional completion displays for that content. This content must be completely viewed before you're allowed to proceed to the next page.
Note: The page count may appear to jump ahead significantly after a slide containing practice questions, but don't worry- you're not skipping content! This jump occurs because practice sections are often counted as their own pages.
-
Module list and status details. In the Module List window, selecting a module from the list on the left side displays the module's details on the right side. The Status field reads “completed” for every module you have successfully completed and saved.
If a module has not yet been started, it reads "not attempted". For modules that have been started but not completed, the Status displays as "incomplete".
The Score field ALWAYS reads as zero. You may view your score from your Completed List page after taking the test.
After launching the course module, the course home page is displayed. From here, you may begin reviewing the course materials by clicking the Launch Course button in the Launch Course section.
-
Upon launch, the course displays the Module Selection page. Selecting a module title in the left side of the Module List displays its details and current status in the right side of the page.
-
Selecting Launch Lesson on the course details area starts the lesson by opening the course content in a new window.
-
Some modules begin by presenting you with an opportunity to take a course pre-test. To continue with the lesson, select Skip Pretest.
Note: If you attempt the pretest and pass, you receive the option to skip the lesson. While pre-testing out of a module provides a "completed" status, it does not award you any CE credits for the module. So if you need all 14.25 CE credits offered by this course, you must complete every module without pre-testing out!
-
Proceed through the module, using the Next button on the bottom of the screen to advance to the next page. Some pages may contain additional content within them that must be reviewed. All the content in a course module must be viewed before the course module status is considered "complete".
Selecting the Prev button, or any previously-completed page from the Menu option displays previous content.
-
After all topics are complete (or if you simply want to exit the course), select the Exit link in the upper-right corner to close the course window. Your progress is automatically saved.
Note: Selecting Exit or the X icon closes the course with no warning pop-up. However, upon reopening the module, the topic resumes from the last page viewed.
-
Repeat this process for all modules and exams in the Module List window.
Note: Upon closing the module window and returning to the module list, you will need to click Refresh for the course status to display any updated details. However, even if you don't refresh your status here, your current status remains saved.
-
After achieving a status of Completed in every one of the course modules, the entire course is complete. In order for the full course to move to your Completed List, each and every course module must have a status of "Completed."
After finishing all the course modules in a section, you may complete its Exam module. Launch and complete each one by completing the following process:
-
Selecting the desired Exam title from the left side of the Module Select page displays its details and current status in the space to the right.
-
Selecting Launch Lesson from the details area launches the exam by opening it in a new window.
-
Proceed through the exam, and answer each question by selecting the appropriate answers. The series of questions consists of multiple-choice responses. Pick each answer by selecting the circle of the appropriate response. Selecting the Submit button at the bottom corner of the screen submits your answer and advances to the next question.
-
Upon submitting the final answer, the exam is complete and the Results page displays, showing your score. Here, the Print Report option lets you check your detailed results. You may also Retry the test if you failed, or select Get CE to obtain your hard-earned Continuing Education certificate.
Selecting Print Report displays your responses to each exam question, showing you which answers were correct or incorrect.
Select Retry Test if you failed the test and wish to try again for a passing grade. A score of 80% or greater is required to pass the exam.
To view or print your certificate of completion, click Get CE. For a more detailed guide to this process, please refer to the Certificates and Credits section.
