Impersonating a User
Administrators have the ability to impersonate any other user in symplr Recruiting. Impersonating means you are able to view and interact with the system as if you were that selected user. You have access to the same areas they do, are able to view or modify their data as they can, and may perform any assigned tasks on their behalf.
This powerful feature is mainly intended to provide a way to manage any wayward tasks left untouched by former or vacationing employees. Used in moderation and only when needed, impersonation is a useful tool to ensure nothing falls through the cracks.
Impersonating a user is done via the following steps:
-
Clicking Impersonate from the User menu (the one showing your username in the navigation bar) displays the Impersonation pop-up window.
-
Enter the name of the user you wish to impersonate. As you begin typing, options automatically populate in a drop-down menu under the text field. When you see the name of the user you wish to impersonate, select the desired option from the list. Selecting their name puts their username into the text field.
Alternately, selecting the Search by username option allows you to search by the username of the employee you want to impersonate.
Note: If using Search by username, you will need to know the exact username of the person you want to impersonate. Conveniently, selecting someone's name using the Search by Name option displays their username in the text field. A full list of usernames can also be found on the Users page under the Admin menu.
-
After you've got the desired user picked out, click OK. The page display changes to reflect the data and actions available to them. The name on the User menu also changes to that of the user you're impersonating.
Note: This change is the only on-screen reminder that you're acting as someone else, so don't forget!
Warning: Any actions performed while impersonating another user are logged by the system as being completed by the user being impersonated. There is no indication or record indicating when an action is executed by a third party.
When you're finished pretending to be someone else, select Stop Impersonating from the User menu to return to your own business.
