The Concept of Messages and Tasks
The Messages and Tasks area, a table found on the Applicant Detail page, was introduced to symplr Recruiting in the release of version 11. It was created to help streamline the processing of applicants.
The Messages and Tasks table serves two main purposes:
- Track communications between managers and recruiters regarding the selected applicant.
- Assign tasks to users when specific actions are needed, such as completing a custom form or setting up an interview.
Messages are simply emails sent regarding the selected applicant. They can be sent between managers and recruiters, or directly to the applicant.
The main purpose of the Messages and Tasks table is for recruiters to send applicants to managers for review, and for those managers to comment, or reply to the messages. This correspondence between the users is tracked and displayed in a threaded message format in the table.
Messages sent between managers and recruiters are also used to assign tasks to users, as described below.
The Messages table also shows emails sent directly to the applicant under the Applicant Messages view of the Messages and Tasks table.

Tasks are requests to a user of symplr Recruiting to complete an action. Those actions can be to review an applicant's information, complete a custom form, set up an interview, etc.
When a task is assigned to a user, it appears in the Messages and Tasks table. Users can mark tasks assigned to them as complete, and some tasks will even automatically mark themselves as complete when the users performs the necessary actions (such as filling out a custom form).
Tasks can be viewed as simple reminders that another user has requested something from you. There is no penalty for not completing tasks; the processing of the applicant can continue with no problems if tasks are not completed.
Tasks are assigned to a user when a message is sent.
