The Concept of Applicants
Applicants are potential employees of your organization. They have responded to job openings posted on career sites and submitted the necessary application information in hopes to fill your position.
Even if an applicant is not offered the position they originally applied for, their information will remain in symplr Recruiting. This allows you to reassign applicants to other job openings.
Throughout the system, you will notice a reference to both Applicants and Applications. These terms are somewhat interchangeable, but there are some differences.
- Applicants are people that respond to a job opening. They have a profile in symplr Recruiting that contains information about their background and capabilities (a resume, basically).
- Applications are what applicants submit for job openings. When applicants access your career site and apply for a job, they complete several forms and questionnaires for that specific job opening. The information they submit for a job is for that job only.
An applicant can submit many applications for different job openings you have posted. symplr Recruiting provides various ways to quickly view all applications an applicant has submitted for different jobs.
Just like a requisition, applicants have a basic workflow they undergo throughout the application process:
- An applicant reviews a posted job opening and submits an application.
- The application is reviewed by a recruiter to identify the candidates best suited for the opening.
- Qualified applicants are sent to the hiring manager for review.
- If approved, applicants then attend interviews, have their background and references checked, etc.
- If all goes well, the applicant receives an offer for the job opening.
- The applicant accepts the offer and is hired.

Throughout the lifecycle of an applicant, numerous actions can be performed along the way. These include things like reviewing an applicant, attaching documents, sending emails, and other related items.
