The Concept of Requisitions
A Requisition is simply a request to hire, and is the main driving force in symplr Recruiting. Without a requisition, you cannot post a job opening, and job seekers won't be able to view and apply to any openings. So it all starts with requisitions.
If your organization has identified a job opening that needs to be filled, a requisition must be created in symplr Recruiting that both defines the specific job opening as well as the minimum professional requirements for people applying for the opening. This information is then sent to your career site or a job board so job seekers can view and submit applications for your opening.
The basic workflow for requisitions goes like this:
- A requisition is created by a Hiring Manager (or other user with permissions to create requisitions), defining the job opening and minimum requirements for potential applicants.
- The requisition is sent to a set of defined employees that need to approve the requisition (Requisition Approvers). The Requisition Approvers determine if the opening is legitimate and needs to be filled, and if the requisition accurately reflects the opening and requirements.
- Once the requisition is approved, it is sent to a Recruiter (or Human Resources representative) who will post the job opening to career sites. Applicants can now view the opening and submit applications.
- When a qualified applicant is identified and hired, the requisition is considered Filled, and has reached the end of its lifecycle.
As stated, you must create a requisition in order to post a job opening. However, some organizations want to be able to post jobs immediately without waiting for approval from managers. Therefore, the approval step mentioned above is optional - you can have your system configured to bypass the approval step for requisitions so your openings get out to the job boards faster.
